INSTRUCTIONS

1. Features of the Smart key programmer This key programmer supports all SMART vehicles. You just need a key prepared for SMART and for some models you must use a transponder prepared by Abritus72. 1.1. “Key Synchronization over K-Line” – Automatically establishes a diagnostic session with the SAM unit and synchronizes all available keys over K-Line. 1.2. “Key Synchronization over CAN” – Automatically establishes a diagnostic session with the SAM unit and synchronizes all available keys over CAN. 1.3. “Start the car without a working transponder” – You can use this mode when you do not have a working transponder and you want to move the car. When this mode is active, you can start the car only once. 2. How to use the Smart key programmer The Smart device is easy to use and does not require a lot of user intervention. By using the 8 switches of the device the user can give all the necessary information. A different switch combination is responsible for every operation mode of the device. Also, the green, red and yellow LEDs of the device give feedback to the user. You can find more information below. 3. How to use the features of the Smart key programmer You can activate individually the key synchronization features with the help of switches 1 and 2. Activated feature Switch 1 position Switch 2 position Switch 3 position “Key learning over K-Line” ON OFF OFF “Key learning over CAN” OFF ON OFF “Key learning over CAN” OFF OFF ON 3.1. “Key learning over K-Line” 3.1.1. Setup This mode is for SMART vehicles, produced up to year 2005. To use the “Key learning over K-Line” feature, switch number 1 must be ON while the rest of the switches are OFF. 3.1.2. Usage First you must have an appropriate key to begin the key synchronization procedure. Insert this key into the Ignition Switch and turn it to position Ignition ON. Afterwards put switch 1 of the device into position ON and plug the device into the OBDII port of the vehicle. Now the device is active and starts working (see “Indications to the user” chapter below). Observe the indications – if the device’s LEDs do not blink, you must check the setup and then repeat the procedure. 3.1.3. Key Synchronization When the device is plugged into the OBDII port, it performs the following functions: – Automatically establishes a diagnostic session with the SAM control unit and puts the SAM control device into a key-synchronization mode. – The yellow and green LEDs of the key programmer will go OFF. And then the Key LED on the dashboard should start blinking fast. This is the moment when you have to switch the ignition OFF. – In case your key has more than 1 buttons – press the ‘CLOSE‘ button twice within 30 seconds. If the key is successfully registered, the Key LED on the dashboard must go off for about 2 seconds and after that will start blinking again. If your key has only 1 button, then just press it twice within 30 seconds. ATTENTION: You must synchronize all the keys you have, otherwise you cannot start your car! – When the 30 seconds have passed, the green and yellow LEDs will start blinking synchronously (for 2 seconds they will both be ON and for 2 seconds they will both be OFF). In this way the Key-Learning procedure finishes successfully. – You must now start the vehicle’s engine with each one of the keys. In this way you confirm that all keys have been synchronized. In case one or more keys are not synchronized correctly, you can repeat the procedure. 3.1.4. Indications to the user The red, green and yellow LEDs of the device provide feedback to the user. The red LED should be constantly on, showing that the device is powered. The green and yellow lamps give information as follows: – Asynchronous blinking of both the green and the yellow LED indicates data flow (incoming and outgoing) between the key-learning device and the SAM unit of the vehicle. – The yellow and the green LED go OFF, when the device and the SAM unit are communicating. In this moment the user should switch the Ignition OFF and start synchronizing the keys. – When the green LED only is continuously blinking, there is no data flow, but the device is still working. – The green and the yellow LED are blinking synchronously (2 seconds ON and 2 seconds OFF) when the procedure has finished successfully. 3.2. “Key learning over CAN” 3.2.1. Setup This mode is for SMART vehicles, produced after the year 2005. To use the device’s “Key learning over CAN” feature, switch number 2 should be ON. Please note that if you want to synchronize only 1 key – you don’t need to use any of the other switches. However, if you would like to synchronize more than one key in this mode, you must also use switches 5 and 6. The table below shows how to set-up switches 5 and 6 when you want to register more than 1 key: SWITCH-5 SWITCH-6 Number of Keys OFF OFF 1 ON OFF 2 OFF ON 3 ON ON 4 3.2.2. Usage In order to start the key synchronization procedure you must have an appropriate key as well as a transponder. You must use a prepared by Abritus72 transponder. Then you have to insert the key into the Ignition Switch and turn it to position Ignition ON. Put switch 2 to position ON and plug the device into the OBDII port of the vehicle. Now the device is active and starts working (see “Indications to the user” chapter below). Observe the indications – if the LEDs of the device are not blinking, you must check the setup and then repeat the procedure. 3.2.3. Key Synchronization When the device is plugged into the OBD II port, it performs the following tasks: – Automatically establishes a diagnostic session with the SAM control unit over CAN. – Puts the SAM control device into a key-synchronization mode. – Within only a few seconds the yellow and the green LED will go OFF. Then you must switch the Ignition OFF and ON again. ATTENTION: You must switch the Ignition ON again within 20 seconds, otherwise the teach-in process will be aborted. – Afterwards, if you want to learn more keys, you must exchange the key into the Ignition Switch. Then again wait for the LEDs to go OFF. Remember that the ignition must be switched ON again in less than 20 seconds, otherwise the teach-in process will stop. – It is essential to carefully observe the indications, that the green and the yellow lamps provide you! Note! When the yellow and the green LEDs are OFF, you must switch the Ignition OFF! When the yellow and green LED s are ON, you must switch the Ignition ON! – Start the vehicle’s engine with each one of the keys. In this way you will confirm that all keys have been synchronized. 3.2.4. Indications to the user The red, green and yellow LEDs of the device provide feedback to the user. The red LED must be always on, indicating that the device is powered. The green and the yellow lamps give information as follows: – Asynchronous blinking of both the green and the yellow LED indicates data flow (incoming and outgoing) between the key-learning device and the SAM unit of the vehicle. 3.3. “Starting the car without a working transponder” 3.3.1. Setup This mode is for SMART vehicles, produced after the year 2005. To use the device’s “Starting the car without a working transponder” feature, switch number 3 must be ON. You don’t need the rest of the switches in this case. 3.3.2. Usage You must have an appropriate key in order to start the car without a working transponder. Then you have to insert the key into the Ignition Switch and turn it to position Ignition ON. Turn On switch 3 and then plug the key programmer into the OBDII port of the vehicle. Now the device is active and starts working. Observe the indications – if the LEDs of the programmer are not blinking, you must check the setup and then repeat the procedure. The procedure takes about 5 seconds. Afterwards you can start the car. When the green and the yellow LEDs are blinking synchronously (2 seconds ON and 2 seconds OFF), then the procedure has finished successfully.
